Music Box Wealden is the brainchild of my husband, local pianist William Hancox. After many years performing, recording and teaching throughout the UK and around the world, he was inspired to develop a model which brings together musicians and concertgoers in their own communities. Music Box members will pay a monthly subscription giving them free access to a varied programme of concerts and musical events in Wealden, with many performers drawn from the wide pool of talented professional musicians who live locally. They will not only get excellent value but become part of a growing community which actively supports its own musicians and encourages the development of young artists.
Localism, community and sustainability are central to the Music Box vision. Rather than music being seen as a commodity and the audience as consumers, we seek to create a community which co-operates to serve the needs of listeners, learners and performers. At a time when travelling impacts both the planet and your pocket, it makes sense to bring music into the heart of communities as part of the shift towards strong, circular local economies. Cut your culture miles with Music Box!
If classical music is to continue to renew itself as part of a living culture, we need to break down barriers, both real and perceived. Rather than happening in huge halls with distant performers, Music Box concerts will be held in smaller local venues where you can see and hear the music making at close quarters and meet and chat to the artists.
Going forward, Music Box Wealden hopes to develop a programme for both the young and the old, bringing engaging performances to schools and to care homes.
